Beyond Limits with Damien Inspiring and Influencing Others Towards a Common Goal

If you go about your life in an entrepreneurial way and want to achieve great things, you probably see yourself as someone who is a leader or can lead. Either way, leading is not easy, and if you've never really led, you're most likely not good at it. Trust me when I say that. For a long time, I thought, "Oh yeah, of course, I’m able to do that, I was born to play that role." Then I had a situation where I had to lead, and I realized, "Oh no, I suck at it.

This is something you need to learn over time. Skills like that don’t come overnight." Some people are naturals when it comes to leading; they just have a feeling for it. Those people are a small percentage of all the people who are trying to make it. So I’m going to assume you're just like me. You need to work on your leadership skills. So in the next couple of minutes, we’re going to look at all the components of leadership and where you should focus your attention to become better at it.

What Does Being a Leader Mean?

From my personal view, it means being someone who is well respected and who treats the people around them with respect. Only then can you truly inspire and make people follow you into your vision. Others need to fully trust you to steer the ship in the right direction.

Skills That Are Necessary to Become a Great Leader

In my opinion, the most important skill a leader should have is putting their thoughts into words, truly talking about their vision no matter how complex it is, and putting it into compelling words. So the listener has the same picture in their head. This sounds easy at first, but it's not. Think about yourself and the things you want to achieve. Are you able to clearly tell me where you want to go, which strategy you're going to use, and all that in a way that anyone would say, "This sounds great and doable"? This skill is not only about learning how to talk but also about making something sound inspiring, which is crucial in being a leader.

Secondly, you need to become someone who people remember. You have probably met someone who just has that aura. For example, every time I’m at a venue, I automatically see who the owner is. They just have something about themselves, how they move, talk, or interact with people. I think having this kind of impact on people comes from often showing yourself that you are truly that person. Not just believing but results in doing what you said you would.

This point comes from the last newsletter post. A leader needs to be fully self-aware. What are skills you have, what are skills you need to work on? Also, being self-aware means being fully accountable for your actions. If you screw up, you own it, acknowledge it, and move on. No more “this hasn’t worked because of him or her.” Now it's “I made a mistake and I will deal with the consequences .”

Create a positive and motivated space for the people around you. Of course, you can have a bad day, but do not let it out on the people who are around you. Encourage them when you see them lacking and start to recognize their work when no one else does. Make people feel needed.

And my last point: you need courage. No one wants to follow someone who is scared to go in a certain direction. Of course, it's normal to feel scared at the beginning of an idea. But that is something you do in private. Think about why you are scared and start to out work your fear and doubts. Just think about it: you’re on a cruise ship and big waves are hitting. Your captain is panicking, you would immediately also start to panic. What you need is someone who is relaxed and focused only if that is the case you can overcome challenges.

Not everybody is a leader, but everybody can use this.

Even if you are someone who is thinking about their life and their upcoming journey in an entrepreneurial way, it does not mean everybody is meant to be a leader. And not everyone wants to be a leader. Just because you want to start your own thing doesn’t mean you need to be the best leader. For example, find a partner who loves talking and likes being in the center of attention. Then you can only focus on the creative/working part of your mission. But having those skills will be a game changer in your life. Just think about how easy it will be for you to network or in general to talk to people. Having skills like this will make you a person others like being around. That definitely improves the quality of life.

Now take this advice and put it to use. Being someone people look up to also means being someone who takes action! Only then can you truly push yourself Beyond your Limits.
