The Truth About 9 to 5 Jobs : Outdated or still relevant

Hello and welcome to this week’s first edition of BYC: Grow Through Conversation. This topic is quite interesting because we’ve always wanted to share our opinion on this recurring issue: how social media portrays the 9 to 5 job as something negative. So, stay tuned and let’s get into it.

What is a 9 to 5 Job?

For those who don’t know, the term "9 to 5 job" basically describes the average job where you go to work at nine and come back at five. You have a boss above you who tells you what to do, and you receive a basic salary every month. Social media has demonized this kind of life, portraying it as a rat race or a dead end that you need to break out of. Most of the time, the people promoting this mindset are trying to sell you something—courses, books, seminars on how to get rich, work from anywhere, and be your own boss. We think that’s total bullshit.

Why 9 to 5 Jobs Are Essential

Let’s cut to the chase: without 9 to 5 working people, without people in the normal workforce, the entire global economy wouldn’t function. That’s the truth. Not everybody can be an entrepreneur or business owner. That’s a fact. And not everybody is made for it. Some people need structure in their lives and need somebody to tell them, "Okay, be here at this time. You can leave at this time, and you will get this kind of money for it," because on their own, not much would happen.

Others just like the peace of mind. Really think about the kind of stresses involved in running a big company or a large organization. Of course, you get the money, but you also get no time and a lot of stress. A 9 to 5 job is way more peaceful, and you get more time for other valuable things like family.
